Match Rules

Official DSL Season 4 playing conditions

These rules apply to every DSL Season 4 fixture, group stage and knockouts. Captains are responsible for briefing their squads before the toss.

How NRR (Net Run Rate) works

NRR is the tie-breaker when two teams finish on the same points. In simple words: it rewards you for winning big and quickly, and punishes you for losing badly.

  • •Win batting first: you get +1 point of NRR for every 10 runs you win by (win by 25 runs → +2).
  • •Win chasing: the faster you finish, the better — chase done in the 1st over = +4, 2nd over = +3, 3rd over = +2, 4th over = +1.
  • •The losing team gets the exact same figure as a minus (if the winner gets +3, the loser gets −3).
  • •A tie means no NRR change for either team.
  • •A tied match is decided by a Super Over: 1 over, 2 wickets, 3 batsmen a side. The Super Over winner takes the full 2 points and +1 NRR.
  • •Top 4 teams qualify: Semi-Final 1 is 1st vs 4th, Semi-Final 2 is 2nd vs 3rd, and the two winners meet in the Final.

Match Format

  1. 014 overs per innings.
  2. 021 bowler can bowl a maximum of 1 over per match.
  3. 03Win = 2 points · Tie = 1 point · Loss = 0 points.
  4. 04Top 4 teams on points (then NRR) qualify for the semi-finals.
  5. 05The toss decides bat or bowl and is called by the umpire.

Bowling & Extras

  1. 01Wide = 1 run and the ball is re-bowled.
  2. 02No Ball = 1 run and the ball is re-bowled. There is NO free hit.
  3. 03Byes and leg byes can be run and count towards the team total.
  4. 04Overstepping, high full toss above waist and double bounce are called by the umpire only.
  5. 05A dead ball called by the umpire is not counted and is re-bowled.

On-Field Conduct

  1. 01The umpire's decision is FINAL — no arguments, no reviews.
  2. 02Captains are responsible for their team's behaviour. No abuse — play respectfully.
  3. 03Only the batting pair and the fielding side may be on the field of play.
  4. 04Batters must be ready at the crease on time; deliberate time wasting is not allowed.
  5. 05Retired hurt batters may return only after the last recognised batter.
  6. 06Scorer's live entry is the official record of the match.
